Hometown Hero – February 2022

HOMETOWN HERO — Lawrence Moore

How long have you been a member of HTFD-23 and why did you join?
I have been a member of the Harmony Fire Company, Harrison Township Fire District #1, for 10 years now. I went along with a friend who was interested in becoming a firefighter, only as his moral support… I ended up joining him and it has become one of the best decisions of my life!

What is the best part about being part of HTFD-23?
The best thing about being part of HTFD would be the brotherhood/sisterhood. There is just a unique unexplainable bond among firefighters, no matter your background or status, we all show up to do one thing. We fight fires and give back to our community!

What do you do when you’re not fighting fires?
When I am not fighting fire, I spend the majority of my time serving the residents of Harrison Township as the Deputy Municipal Clerk. This is a job that has become a true calling for me, as I’m someone who strives to do the best for my community. I spend a lot of my free time at the gym as well, catch me at Kennedy Fitness working on my gains!

Who would you say is the most influential person in your life and why?
I would say the most influential person in my life would be my mother, she’s the person that’s shaped who I am today. My mother taught me to do for others and be kind, and on the other hand, she taught me to always speak up in the face of adversity, and never let others to decide who you are and where you are going.

What is your favorite movie and why?
My favorite movie of all time is Top Gun. I have always been fascinated with fighter planes, and Top Gun was my inspiration to one day be a fighter pilot, even though that dream hasn’t materialized yet… Some days I regret not going after that dream!

There is movie about HTFD-23 – what actor would play you?
If there was a move based on HTFD-23 I’d definitely want Kevin Hart to play me.

If you had 3 magic beans – what would you wish for?
First, I’d wish to be the President of the United States.
Next, I’d wish for Americans to see we are not a black or white nation. We are a nation of different ideas and priorities and I for us to truly move forward as a people, we must learn to once again coexist, in spite of our differences. There is no end in a civil society that chooses power over compromise.
And lastly, I’d wish for my dog to live forever!
