Hometown Hero: Tyler Goodstein, Firefighter
How long have you been a member of HTFD-23 and why did you join?
I joined HTFD-23 7 ½ years ago. I was always looking for ways to be a helpful person and to do good for my community. I was introduced to the fire company and immediately gravitated towards it for three main reasons: one, I was able to help the community at a time when they needed it the most, two, who doesn’t love fire trucks, and three, I didn’t like donuts enough to become a cop. I enjoyed being a firefighter at HTFD-23 so much that I bought a house in Mullica Hill to further my involvement here.
What is the best part about being part of HTFD-23?
From the brotherhood you have and the knowledge you develop there are a lot of “best parts” about HTFD-23. The best part for me would be knowing that even though sometimes minor, you are there to make someone’s day just a little better, because let’s face it.. if we show up, the caller probably isn’t having that great of a day. A close second would be getting to meet Santa every year to bring smiles to the kids of Harrison Township, and waking the adults up at 8:30 on a Saturday with numerous sirens.
What do you do like to do when you’re not volunteering as a Hometown Hero?
Outside of the firehouse, I am a self proclaimed mega-nerd. During the week I work as a Salesforce Administrator which is my career. Outside of work, I enjoy going to the gym to work on myself. I have a lot of hobbies, mostly nerdy, like video games, photography, and 3D Printing. In addition to those, I also play guitar and piano, and enjoy detailing vehicles.
Who would you say is the most influential person in your life and why?
I would say the most influential people in my life would be my parents. I wouldn’t be who I am today if I was not raised this way. Even what I do for a living was guided based on what my dad did and showed me until I eventually started studying it.
What are your 3 favorite movies?
Star Wars (all of them), that counts right?
Stranded on a desert island – what ONE musical artist would you want to listen to?
I have such a diverse playlist, that’s a difficult one. I may have to say Marianas Trench, they seem to always make it on my playlist somewhere.
What is your favorite team to cheer for and against?
Philly teams all the way, but Eagles are my favorite to cheer for. I have a friend that is a Cowboys fan, so roasting him over that makes them my top to “boo”.
If you could have a meal and any 3 people dead or alive – who would you choose?
I think I would have Adam Savage, Neil deGrasse Tyson, and Mark Cuban.
If you had 3 magic beans – what would you wish for?
If I had three magic beans, I would use one for knowledge because I believe knowledge is the key to achieving any goal or vision you may have. The second bean would be used for money, of course everyone wants that, but there is so much good that can be done with a big enough wallet. Finally, the third bean would be used for more beans because this is my hypothetical universe and I say I can.
